HORROR LIT FEST 2025: VAMPIRES
October 27th - November 1st

Stop by the library during Halloween week for a celebration of all things VAMPIRE! You’ll find an all ages scavenger hunt, to-go crafts, book and video displays, a vampire pun wall, and more. 

VAMPIRE ORIGIN SCARY STORY CONTEST
Wednesday Oct. 1st - Monday Oct. 27th, ages 12+

Give us your original vampire origin story! Turn in your tale with a max of 3 paragraphs, minimal gore, and no profanity by Oct. 27th. Story must be turned in with an official entry form, found at the Circulation and Information Desks. Must be a Wexford County resident. Winners will be announced on Halloween.

DOWNTOWN GARLIC DELIGHTS
Monday Oct. 27th - Saturday Nov. 1st

Garlic breath? More like vampire-repellent! Head downtown for a week of fun new dishes any true vampire slayer will enjoy. The Sweet Shop, Pizza Plus, The Willow/Primos BBQ, and WildFlour are just a few of the shops that will have something to try. Main Street Floral will also feature a vampy bouquet - a perfect fit for this spooky season!

VAMPIRE PARTY @ CHUNKY BEAR COFFEE ROASTERS
Monday, Oct. 27th, 6-8pm, ages 18+

Dress up as your favorite literary or pop culture vampire, chat with others about your Twilight obsession or favorite vampire slayer, make a craft, eat a themed snack, and geek out about the living dead!

CADILLAC LIBRARY COMMUNITY BLOOD DRIVE
Thursday, Oct. 30th, 1-5:30pm, with Versiti Blood Center of Michigan

Donating blood takes about an hour and potentially impacts up to three lives. Appointments are preferred; call 866-642-5663 or visit versiti.org/mi. Walk-ins welcome, as schedule allows! For eligibility questions call number above or attend our Blood Drive 101 event on October 14th (5-6pm in our Community Room). 

BAT TRIVIA @ CARL T. JOHNSON HUNTING & FISHING CENTER
Saturday, Nov. 1st, 4-5pm, ages 14+

Get ready for fang-tastic fun as the library and DNR partner for a round of bat-themed trivia! Work with your team (or solo) to decipher and mythbust our batty literary references and conservation clues. Prizes include gift cards to a local restaurant and the Friends of the Mitchell State Park gift shop.

52 BOOKS IN 2025 READING CHALLENGE

Ages 16+. Challenge yourself to read 52 books in 52 weeks! No need to read the list in order - jump around and find what works for you. Follow the library on social media for weekly videos. We'll highlight our favorite books and give you ideas for each prompt. Turn this sheet in with at least one prompt filled out by the end of 2025 for chance to win a prize! Complete the challenge to be entered into a Kindle drawing. Not enough time to complete this year? No worries - read just one book to be eligible for all sorts of bookish prizes at our 52 Party in January 2026. Happy reading!

Sign up and receive a personalized bag of bookish fun! Each bag will contain the minimum of 2-3 library books, a bookmark (or other bookish fun), library programming highlights, snack, and more.

How to sign up & receive your Book Bag: 

1. Fill out a Book Bag form HERE. Sign up by the 13th of the month to receive a bag.

Fill out this form once every 1 to 6 months, depending on what time of year you sign up: 

  • Now through November 2025 
  • Now through February 2026 

2. Pick up your Book Bag after 3pm on the 15th of the month
(you'll have 14 days to pick up your bag). Enjoy!

3. Review the books you've received for a chance to win a gift card to Horizon Books! Review your books HERE.
